The inaugural Abernathy Pedasi, Panama fishing competition is to take place over three days, on the 27th, 28th and 29th of July, 2007.

(PRWEB) July 5, 2007 -- The inaugural Abernathy Pedasi, Panama fishing competition is to take place over three days, on the 27th, 28th and 29th of July, 2007. The aim is to attract the cream of light tackle fishermen from all over the country of Panama to compete for record breaking catches in Pedasi, Panama. The prized species will be Wahoo, Dorado, Amberjack, Red Snapper, Roosterfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Spanish Mackerel. Pedasi is synonymously called the “Tuna coast” for the infamous schools of Yellowfin Tuna that are swept inshore by the Humboldt Current.

Pedasi is small fishing village is a small coastal fishing village nestled on green rolling hills that resemble the Tuscan region of Italy. Pedasi is famed for its virgin fishing grounds that have now brought a select crowd of investors to this small fishing village, among them an extensive Hollywood crowd that have purchased land and houses in Pedasi. The fishing competition in Pedasi allows foreigners an opportunity to interact with the local Pedasi fishermen and experience the true essence of Pedasi folklore.

Pedasi Fishing (www.pedasifishing.com) and Panama Fishing (www.panamafishing.net) principal Jose Goldner, is hoping to expose Pedasi as a world-class light tackle fishing destination. “Our goal is to expose foreign fishermen to the local fishing culture of Pedasi, Panama. We want people to fish out of Pangas, and keep the playing field even.” Goldner continues saying, “It’s also about preserving and appreciating the local fishing culture and its ways. We’re expecting a fantastic turnout for this year’s event and there is a mood amongst the local captains that’s revitalizing the small fishing village of Pedasi.” General Manager of Abernathy Panama (panamafishing.com.pa), Felipe Argote says “We were early believers in the potential of Pedasi and are delighted to see the increasing momentum in the Azuero region about Panama fishing."

The caliber and reputation of this competition has been bolstered by corporate endorsements, such as Yamaha, Penn, Shimano, Williamson, Yozuri, Rapala, Abernathy, Pedasi Fishing S.A., Panama Fishing S.A., Ocean Legacy S.A. and others. It is hoped that this national competition will be embraced by the cream of light tackle fishermen across the country, perhaps spurred by the chance to make it into the record books. The entrance fee is $75 per boat for all 3 days. For more information, please call. Brian Piantadosi, 507-67503461, or Jose Goldner 507-66731112.
